Floods destroy drainage systems, and destroyed drainage systems can only mean to one thing; raw waste material and sewerage coming out onto the streets, thus leading to putrid smells. Depending on the severity of the flood, buildings will become damaged, and sometimes, even destroyed. When buildings are damaged or destroyed, many toxic and poisonous substances such as paint, gasoline, and pesticide can be released into many bodies of water, such as lakes, seas, and oceans. This leads to killing of marine animals/ plants. Floods often cause erosion to coasts. Although, floods don't always have a negative impact. When the flood carries sediment and water over large tracts of agrictultural land, they are distributed, and this replenishes the topsoil, resulting in higher land mass above sea level.

Most of the time, it takes a millions of dollars to repair damage done to a city, such as wrecked buildings, traffic lights, houses, shops, play equipment in a park, street poles, and other construction.
